Things are looking up for a semi-normal dance competition in 2021! Even though it may look a little different than you are used to, (several competitions are going to a block schedule) the fact that you get to compete in person is so exciting!
Whether you’re new to the Competitive Dance scene or an experienced veteran, being well prepared is your best weapon against wardrobe malfunctions and dancer melt-downs. Here is a list of items that should be included in everyone’s competition arsenal:
Hair Pins/Bobby Pins – you can never have enough!
Hair Nets – Hair Spray – Hair gel – No fly aways!
Pony Tail Holders – Bun makers
Competition Makeup Kit – Make up remover cloth
Competition Jewelry – Good idea to have a second piece of all jewelry in case of breakage or loss!
Safety Pins – all sizes! Can’t stress this enough! Reinforce every hook, clasp, belt, closure with a safety
Pins – NO WARDROBE MALFUNCTIONS!
Sewing Kit – needle and thread comes in handy! Don’t forget a scissors!
Costumes and All Accessories – Make a label for each routine listing everything needed for that costume. Include hair style, jewelry needed, tights, shoes, etc. Put this on the garment bag of this routine for easy reference.
Back up Tights and Fishnets – at least one backup pair for each kind of tights being used.
Undergarments with Extra Clear Plastic Straps! – You never know when one of those straps will pop!
Don’t be the dancer that forgets to put on spanx under her costume!
Don’t forget your dance shoes! Oh yes! This has happened more than you would think!
Snacks – Water Bottle
Most importantly – a great attitude and a great big smile!
